24. NEW & HOT!!! Paul S. Scarlata COLLECTING CLASSIC BOLT ACTION MILITARY RIFLES !!!

Bolt Action Military Rifles are the hottest field in arms collecting today - and it's easy to see why! While there are plenty of inexpensive examples out there to entice beginning collectors, there are just as many great rarities and exotic models for the experts. In this new book, author Paul Scarlata, one of the most recognized names in gun writing today, covers all aspects of this exciting field. He clearly describes all of the various bolt action systems used by the different nations, and how they differ from each other. Over 400 large photographs detail key features you will need to recognize in order to identify guns for your collection. Learn the original military configurations of these service rifles so that you can tell them apart from altered guns and bad restorations. The historical sections areparticularly strong, giving readers a clear understanding of how and why these rifles were developed, and which troops used them. Advanced collectors will be fascinated by the countless historical photographs of these guns in the hands of troops. And, in order to show which rifles were superior to others and why some armies had an advantage over their rivals, Scarlata tests a selection of these rifles on the range, giving you in-depth reports on their performance, not just for accuracy, but for ease of use, durability, quality of ammunition and combat effectiveness. During the era of the classic bolt action military rifle, a soldier's rifle was his best friend, protecting him from danger and serving him faithfully. For today's collector, Paul Scarlata's exciting new book may be just as important. Hardover, 280 pages 8.5 x 11, 400+ black and white photos. This is a brand new, hot of the presses, book! Volume II comprises: "The War of Lost Opportunities" and "The Truth about Tannenberg". Translated from the German by Eric Sutton. Extremely scarce in this edition. Cyril Falls: " This is the more important of the late General Hoffmann's two books. This remarkable man, nominally only Chief of the Staff to the royal personage who was Commander-in-Chief on Germany's Eastern Front but actually wielding far more power than would be possible for any British or French officer in a similar situtaion, set down from day to day not only the day's events but a running commentary upon the characters and qualifications of German soldiers in every theatre of the War. Falkenhayn he disliked and mistrusted; Ludendorff he seems to have liked and admired, but also frequently criticised. He believed that the War would have been won in France in 1914 but for the mistakes of Moltke. When victory was missed there, he thought that the main effort should have been made in the East and Russia driven out of the War by a series of tremendous blows. Here Falkenhayn's policy came into conflict with his and appeared to him to lose the second great chance of decisive victory. His comments are racy and often amusing, but behind them are knowledge, shrewdness, and a grasp of essentials which show him to have been one of the most intellectual of German soldiers." It should also be noted that when first published, this set retailed at the then enormous price of two guineas. $45.00
